Tracking and Personas
My first week of class has me reading some case studies and learning about Media to Movements strategies and things to be thinking about. Really, though, I have so many questions.
I’m not a metrics guy, so I tend to want to shy away from numbers. But I know some tracking will be important if I want to measure success. But what does success look like? Is it clicks and likes, or is it disciples making disciples? I think we know the answer there.
As far as tracking goes, people have tried spreadsheets and all kind of things but there’s actually a custom built program called disciple.tools that is often recommended. I haven’t checked that out of course at this point, but good to know its there for when the time is right.
We touched a bit on personas this week. What kind of person will I be looking for? Disillusioned Muslim Yawo? What are they disillusioned by? Do I need to figure out what kinds of things the pain points are? Maybe they think their sheiks don’t have the answers they are looking for. Maybe they see that marriages never work. Or that everyone is always afraid of spirits or something?
I’m on a few Facebook groups where Yawo hang out digitally and see a number of recurring themes. They love to post about religion, sex & love, humor, politics, gross-out accidents or medical conditions, and ways to make money or promote their businesses. Ultimately I’m going to have to rely on insiders to figure this out.
Questions for discussion:
If you are on any online forums that are predominately Yawo, what topics do you notice are frequently discussed?
What types of Yawo people do you see using social media the most? Secondary school aged? Young adult? Male? Female? If you had to make a general description, what would that look like for a few different scenarios? (i.e. employed adult, young student, etc.)
